DIGNITY, RESPECT...
Our society has a history of extreme marginalization of those with mental health
needs. Homelessness, poverty and victimization are often the end result of a
mental health diagnosis.
When Mens Sana was created the goal was to begin a trend of support... not
blame. Of hope... not despair. Of belonging...not isolation. By offering support
to individuals and to their families it is hoped that new patterns of health can
replace old patterns of crisis.
We believe that education is a cornerstone of growth. Whether it’s helping families and the community to understand mental illness or educating our residents in areas such as decision-making, rights, and skill acquisition, we believe learning leads to wellness.
Dignity and respect at Mens Sana are more than mere “words”; they are the
backbone of our philosophy. They are words not commonly associated with
mental illness. We aim to change that.
